I’m sure you’ve all heard the saying, “A Place for Everything and Everything in it’s Place”.
I have found this cute little one liner to be the best organizational tip ever. It is so true….if everything has a place and is also in that place, the clutter is pretty much non-existent.
I can’t say that I have my entire house under control.
There are some things that don’t have a place.
There are probably even more that just aren’t in their place.
But one item that I have learned to control is shoe clutter, especially of the children’s shoes.
We have a metal bookcase just inside our door where all of the kids shoes are placed. My husband and I also keep our tennis shoes on this shelf as well.
EA, MC, and Will are pretty well trained to put their shoes on the shelf whenever they take them off of their feet.
Even EA’s beloved baby, Marco, puts her shoes away!
This has greatly cut down on “shoe clutter” in our home. And it has also eliminated the last minute hunt for shoes as we are headed out the door.
I have thought about painting or decoupaging this shelf, but haven’t worked up the nerve to do my own little DIY project with it yet. I get so scared of doing things like that, but I think it would look super cute!
Having this designated place to put away shoes has really Worked for Me!

we used to have one basket that all the girls shoes went in as they walked in the door – church shoes, flip flops, Crocs were all mixed together. Now that we added sneakers to the mix I ended up with 3 smaller baskets so there is no digging – church/dressy shoes, flip-flops, Crocs & Sneakers. It’s working really well so far and the kids do not wear their shoes past the back door.

I like it. I like it alot. I just recently bought a bench for our entry which has three baskets underneath it, one for each kid. I am trying to get them to take them off as soon as they come in the door. We’re not there yet, but I am hoping!!

This is a great idea. We’ve been trying to come up with a shoe solution since we take our shoes off as soon as we come in the door. Does your wee one mess with the shoes or the shelf? That’s the only hold up, really. I’d hate to get a shelf or basket only to have my toddler terrorize it. 🙂

We have a bench with baskets under it that we keep the shoes in. Each member of the family has their own basket so it works great for us.

We are lucky enough to have a very nice sized laundry room. We found a bench that fits nicely, and have the girls pretty well trained to put shoes on and off there. Now if we could just get Mommy and Daddy to do the same!

Love the idea! We have a basket, but it is very cluttered, a shelf would be better. When you move I’ll have to take a road trip to help you “finish” your shelf. I love those types of projects!

Aren’t shoe shelves great? We recently got some, and I love having the shoes out of the way instead of in a sprawl that has to be kicked out of the way to open the door!
