A Welcoming Entryway

by Monica on May 5, 2009

ttbigbutton1One improvement that I have been wanting to make to our apartment here is to decorate our outside hallway entryway.

The walls in the stairwell are blank, stark white. The floors are not the best looking, either. I can’t make changes to either of those, but I have long wanted to decorate around our door to make at least our own doorway more welcoming to visitors.

I went shopping at the Bazaar on post this weekend with that goal in mind.

And I hit the jackpot!!!

I found a small table, a nightstand, with the stars and stripes painted on the top and a glass topped surface that looked like it would be just perfect outside the small space in front of our door.

The booth that I found it at had lots of “Americana” decorations. I found a wooden sign that reads “Welcome to our Army Home”. Above this I hung another wooden hanging that reads “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord”…AMEN! I also got a set of wooden stars to place on the table.

For by the door, I had the dealer personalize a hanging that I have been looking for to go in this exact spot. I’ve seen it and admired it in other Army homes.

home is where the army sends us

It reads, “Home is Where the Army Sends Us”….how true is that! It has our family name and hanging stars listing all of the posts where we have been stationed. There’s just two personalized in that space right now, but we can add more to it!

In addition to that, I really want to show off another perfect find that I had….an old wooden school desk with the stars and stripes painted on the seat. I LOVE THIS!!!

As I was looking at it, the dealer came up and mentioned that she found it in an old school house in S.C. That’s my home state, how could I turn it down? This desk was so meant to be mine!

I placed it in the corner at the end of our hallway and placed a book about early schools on the desk top.

Decorating our entryway to make it more appealing and welcoming was my big tackle of the week!

That looks great and very welcoming! I love finding the right sign to hang in a room. The message it conveys really sets the tone of the room.
Great tackle!

Oh wow! How beautiful! I wish I had the talent to look at something that seems so simple and see the decorative beauty in it. It seems all the women in my family got it but me. lol
