How to Make Snow Ice Cream

by Monica on February 2, 2010

During our blizzard on Saturday, I decided that we all needed something fun to do together.

I’ve heard of people making a special snowy day treat out of snow before and that sounded like just the thing for us.

So, I went in search of a recipe for Snow Ice Cream…and I found that included ingredients that I had on hand!!

When MC got up from quiet time, I told her that we were going to make ice cream out of snow.

I expected her to be excited about it, but instead she just looked very unsure of my bright idea.

She was excited about helping out in the kitchen, though.

To make snow ice cream, you need 1 gallon of fresh snow, 1 cup of white sugar, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, and approximately 2 cups of milk.

stirring ice cream

All we had to do was stir sugar and vanilla into the snow and then stir in enough milk to get to the right consistency.

And, of course, enjoy!

I have never done this. But, with the forecast calling for more snow today and Sat, perhaps we can give it a try! Thanks for sharing!!!

Your Snow Ice Cream sounds great… it looks like you live in the country… when in New York… we don’t live in a place were the snow is really edible… the snow in the backyard is clean at first but not for long… between animals…birds… cars and people… it gets icky fast

I tried to read your post, I honestly did. But I was too distracted by the beautiful woman with the baby bump!!! Love the pictures! I bet the ice cream turned out great. Looks like the kids enjoyed it. :-)

A recipe? Who knew? We always made it from scratch when I was a kid. Of course, I grew up in GA where we saw very little snow. Even if we did have a recipe, I’m not sure it would have kept for the “once in every seven or eight years” we would have needed it.

The only ingredient we used that wasn’t on your list? Cinnamon. Just a few sprinkles.
