Mommy, My Bottom a Mess

October 26th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Yes, day two of potty training didn’t go as well as I would have liked. We had to go to a meeting to plan a Christmas party this morning so I put the girls in pull ups. No, I didn’t want them making a mess out of someone else’s home. Anyway, I think this just threw them off for the day. After the meeting we got lunch and came home, so they didn’t wear big girl panties until after their nap.

Neither of them were very interested in doing anything in the potty this afternoon. I knew they would have to do a dirty job at some point today since it didn’t happen yesterday and they are usually very regular. Mary Catherine went as soon as she woke up from her nap, before I had a chance to sit her on the potty. I could tell that Elizabeth Anne also had to “go” when she woke from her nap, but was a bit nervous about doing it on the potty.

I tried everything I could think of the make her more comfortable. I sat down with her on the floor of the bathroom. I read her books. I gave her lots and lots of hugs and encouragement. I even held her hand but after so long with no progress I finally gave up, put her panties back on and let her go play. Not five minutes after leaving the bathroom, I was in Will’s room changing his diaper when Elizabeth Anne comes up to me and says, “Mommy, my bottom a mess”. And sure enough, HER BOTTOM WAS A MESS!! I cleaned everything up and let her know that it was okay, we’d just try again tomorrow.

The evening did go a little bit better as they both were able to “get water” in their potty before going to bed. I am learning though that they do better when I am more relaxed and don’t pressure them. Hopefully, I’ll remember that tomorrow.

Stumble It!
