Sleepwalking Potty Training

by Monica on November 19, 2008

For the past several nights, EA and MC have successfully slept through the night without pull-ups. This makes us another huge step towards being completely potty trained. It has been a somewhat long, slow process for us.

Saturday night they both requested to sleep in panties and I was happy to oblige, not wanting to squash their desire to do so. We’ve tried it before, but have woken up to soaked sheets.

But I did one thing differently this time.

I have started taking both girls to potty right before I go to bed myself each night. At this point, they have been already been asleep for close to three hours.

I just go into their rooms, get them out of bed, and walk them to the bathroom.

They are able to relieve their bladders without completely waking up.

I walk them back to their beds and they are back to sleep within just a few minutes.

When they were babies I did a “dream feed” right before I went to bed to help them sleep through the night. I’m thinking this is the same concept, but I’m a bit hesitant to call it a “dream pee”. No, I don’t think I’ll do that.

Sleepwalking potty training is working for us…I just hope that I am not teaching them to sleep walk by default.

I like this idea and will have to try it with my daughter. She wakes up most mornings with a dry pull up, but wouldn’t you know when I put her in underwear she is wet…sleep walking, I’m willing to test it out! Thanks!!

I’ll certainly be filing this idea for sometime in the next few months when my little one is ready to start potty training!

We’re in the middle of potty training too. Your dream pottying sounds like a great idea. Mom’s are funny like that, our little successes mean so much!

I am trying to potty train my 2 (almost 3) year old daughter. I would be afraid she would wake up and I would not be able to get her back to sleep….but, hey, whatever works, right?
