This is my all time favorite breakfast recipe.
I started making it when we lived in Germany and I had friends over for dinner during my husband’s deployment.
Having friends over for dinner became an excuse to make this delicious french toast!
After a few years, this has become our family’s go-to “let’s celebrate with a special breakfast” recipe. I make it for Christmas, birthdays, Valentine’s Day, and any other special day that I can think of.
We had it on Monday to celebrate the first day of our new {home}school year.
Ingredients
- 3-oz package of softened cream cheese
- 2 T. powdered sugar
- 2 T. strawberry preserves
- 8 slices sourdough or country white bread
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. half-and-half (or creamer)
- 2 T. sugar
- 4 T. butter, divided
Instructions
- Combine the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar in a small bowl.
- Stir in strawberry preserves.
- Spread the strawberry cream cheese mixture over 4 slices of bread and top with remaining slices to make sandwiches.
- Whisk eggs, half-and-half and sugar together in a medium bowl and set aside.
- Melt 2 T. butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Dip each sandwich into egg mixture, completely covering both sides.
- Cook two sandwiches at a time, lightly browning each side.
- Melt remaining butter and cook the other two sandwiches.
- Top with fresh strawberry slices and powdered sugar.
- Add a drizzle of maple syrup and enjoy!

I love breakfast food, too! Breakfast for dinner makes me happy
.
That looks delicious! I wonder if I could substitute the strawberries for another type of berry. My hubby doesn’t care for strawberries. I know, I know, it’s his one fault.
I bet you could substitute another berry. I think blueberries would be delicious!!
I don’t like raspberries, so I can *kind of* relate to your husband.
Looks really yummy! Thank you for sharing! I always love your recipes:)
