Yesterday the kids and I made Homemade Strawberry Play Dough. I got the recipe from Impress Your Kids, my new favorite blog. Impress Your Kids is a craft blog focused on impressing God’s word and His laws on the hearts of your children. If you don’t get anything else out of this post, please just go check them out! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
My children really enjoy playing with Play Dough. It can even entertain Will and that says a lot!
They were excited about doing a craft and playing with mommy, too.
The ingredients for the strawberry scented play dough are:
1 cup of flour
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 package of strawberry kool-aid (unsweetened)
1/4 cup of salt
2 tablespoons of cream of tartar
1 cup of water
First we mixed it all up in a saucepan.
Then I mixed it up and let it heat until it formed a ball.
The kids watched and waited while I did that part.
This is what it looks like right out of the pan….a bit gooey.
Then we kneaded it until it’s nice and smooth and actually resembled play dough.
We had to wait several minutes for it to cool before EA, MC, and Will could play with it. But when it did, they had so much fun playing away with this playdough. We made strawberries, hearts, and many other shapes.
I was also able to talk to them about how our hearts are like play dough in that God takes them and shapes them and forms them so that we will be more like Him.
I’m sure you can make other scents with this same recipe, just substituting other flavors of Kool-aid. In fact, I have several other packets waiting, but I ran out of cream of tartar on this batch. We’ll do this as soon as I can make a commissary run.

My daugther was making cakes just the other day with playdough. This would’ve been great! (She’s been watching the Challenge show on the cooking channel and LOVES making her own elaborate pretend cakes now.)
Stopping by from We are THAT Family!

I don’t let my kids play playdough… it’s just too messy to clean up.
