This week Works for Me Wednesday, hosted by Kristen at We Are THAT Family, has a theme….frugal edition.
My best frugal tip for all of you that may be reading this from an Army post located overseas, just like us, is that the commissary accepts coupons six months after their regular expiration date. Many people do not know this, but if you are an avid or just a hopeful coupon user, this tip can save you tons!!
I have a very special friend in the states that sends me her expired coupons that she doesn’t use. It’s so great for me, especially because the coupons she sense are already sorted and clipped….SWEET!! I appreciate the time and effort she puts into this so much!
I have also had the coupon pages from the Sunday papers in the states sent over and I have clipped the coupons myself.
AND I have noticed that our commissary keeps a basket at the entrance filled with coupons. Our ACS (Army Community Services) office also has some on hand there to give out to families.
Now, if you are reading this and you are a stateside coupon user, you can do military families a huge favor by sending your expired coupons overseas to be used by commissary shoppers. The Happy Housewife has started a program, Coupons for Troops, to send coupons–both expired and not–to military families living overseas.

Great! I’ll start sending them…. I buy a lot of store brands and don’t end up using a lot of coupons… the ones I don’t I will send off…. good information… I’ll pass the word to my email friends.
