Election time is here. In less than two months many decisions will be made and votes will be cast.
We have such an incredible opportunity and privilege in our country to decide our leaders.
I have been an enthusiastic voter from the time I cast my very first vote.
I turned eighteen during my freshman year in college and I so looked forward to voting in the upcoming election. Because I was in college about a four-hour driving distance from home, I voted in the same way that I will be voting this year….through absentee ballot.
My first vote did not take place at a polling center spending the day standing in line.
No, I placed my first vote during the 1996 Presidential election between Bill Clinton and Bob Dole sitting on my bed in my college dorm room.
I filled out every single line.
I even remember there being a write-in for a Soil and Water Conservation Commissioner in my county. Not wanting to leave any blanks on my precious election form, I did the only thing I could think of at the time, I filled in the blank with my granddaddy’s name.
After that I was completely inspired.
I tried to convince my entire family to vote for him as well.
Fortunately, for my granddaddy, they didn’t go for it.I wonder what unsuspecting family member will wind up on my ballot this year?
Voting by absentee ballot way takes a bit more intentionality and purpose.
It takes intention to submit a request for an absentee ballot.
It takes intention to then fill out that ballot when it arrives in the mail.
It takes intention to place that ballot in the mail and sent it back to your state.
This is one very important way that you can take part in the freedoms of your country even when you are away from home.
If you are away from home, especially if you are a service member or family member of a service member, visit the Federal Voting Assistance Program’s site for help in registering to make your vote count this election year.

I remember my second presidential election – I voted by absentee ballot for that one.
A great post!
Happy Friday!

I’ll be joining the absentee throng this year… Ohio’s doing a HUGE push for Absentee (I should say our county is…) but I’ll be filling in my scan-tron ballot because I’ll be working at the polls again. I LOVE doing that…
