The theme for this week’s NOT Back to School Blog Hop is School Room Week. Homeschooling can take place in a variety of places, from a special room complete with school desks for each child to just camping out at the dining room table (as we do). The wonderful thing about just about all aspects of homeschooling is that is can be as simple or elaborate as you want it to be.
In our case, it’s as simple as it gets. We only have a small three bedroom apartment in our on-post quarters here in Germany, so we’re enjoying the lovely space we have and going the very simple route.
We have circle time sitting together in a circle on the living room floor
We usually read stories sitting on our comfy couch. This is where the majority of our time is spent. That empty space is for me!
And we do workbooks or written work at the dining room table.
The girls also have another small wooden table that we use for coloring and crafts. I’m sure you’ve seen it around here lots…I just forgot to get a picture of that today!

My 14 yo is sitting here with me. Keep in mind I have three daughters and a boy, who is the youngest of them all. She saw the picture above of the girls on the couch and your son sitting there. She spoke out what she thinks he must be thinking, “I need a brother.” :/
One time my son asked for a brother, but I explained that we couldn’t have anymore. Then he saw his friend walk by and he said with excitement, “I know! Can Domenic be my brother?”
He loves when daddy comes home and they can have ‘guy time’.

We are doing homeschool in exactly the same places: circle time on the living room floor, reading time on the couch, and seatwork at the dining table. Works great for us! We started yesterday, and it is going GREAT so far! Hope all is going well for you too! 🙂
