Wishing Her Time Away

by Monica on November 9, 2009

I have fond childhood memories of thumbing through the Sears Wish Book with my sister before Christmas. We would leaf through the pages looking at all there was to wish for….and there was a lot! My favorite part was getting a pen from my mom to circle our favorites.

MC has apparently inherited my love of wishing.

Last week Keith brought home a Christian Book Distributers catalog from the post office and he had the best time looking through its pages. She immediately picked out her favorite item, a Learning ATM, that allows kids to deposit and withdraw real money.

She spent the entire weekend looking through that catalog. On Saturday, I suggested that she circle the things that she liked the most.

This kept her entertained for most of the day.

And then Keith came home from the PX yesterday afternoon with the AAFES Exchange Holiday book and she has had a blast all over again. Her favorite item from this book so far is a pink Barbie keyboard.

She keeps telling me that I need to “order some things” as that’s been the only way to get most things here. We’ve done very little in store shopping.

And now I’m a bit scared to introduce her to Walmart and Target.

Moving back to the states is going to be a fun adventure for my little shopper!

That is adorable! “I need to order some things”… I find it startling sometimes with some of the things my 3 year old says – realizing that I must have said it a hundred times! Great angle for the catalog picture!

ps – I relate on that Target/Walmart note! I am so looking forward to the convenience of Store shopping, but not the potential “Gimmies” that could go along with it!!

I remember looking through that Sears Wish Book, too! My son’s 2 favorite mail days: Lego catalog, Brookstone catalog….he’ll sit and read them for hours!

That’s so fun. I remember the JC Penney Christmas catalog. We wrote out Santa letters out of it and told our grandmas what we wanted out of it. How exciting.

That does bring back fun memories. Troy and Sarah have really enjoyed the Toys R Us sales paper we got. Every time Sarah sees the sales paper she says baby . She will be soo easy to buy for this year.

So funny, just this weekend my daughter was looking at the Target toy catalog that came in the paper. It was cute to see her eyes light up and see the things she found interesting.

Oh I remember making lists in the JcPenney catalogs, completely alphabetized and the things I really wanted had stars. I loved doing that! My son had the Toys R Us catalog the other day, and had everything Lego’s circled and starred. So cute!

We got a toy catalog in the mail and the girls devoured it and so I said they could write their name next to things that they liked – well every item in the book has their name on it and I have no idea what their favorite thing is.
